Identity resolution decides whether a sanctioned party gets screened out and whether a fraud signal ever reaches the person behind it. We built the AI engine that unifies records into a single identity, and it resolves more of them than the framework it joined, for less.

THE PROBLEM

One person, and no two records that agree

A single person can appear across records dozens of times and never look the same twice. Names are transliterated differently, addresses go stale, dates disagree, fields are missing on one source and present on another. Some of the variation is ordinary life, and some of it is deliberate.

Unresolved records carry a cost in this domain: a sanctioned party whose name never matches the list, or a fraud signal that never connects to the identity behind it. That is the failure mode identity resolution exists to prevent. Exact matching cannot close it, and matching too loosely creates a different and worse problem.

THE ENGINE

Deciding when two records are the same person

We built an AI resolution engine whose job is that single judgement, made at scale. Rather than requiring fields to agree exactly, it weighs similarity across attributes that legitimately drift over time, and unifies records on the strength of the combined evidence rather than on any one shared key.

The specific matching approach is Equifax’s competitive advantage, so it stays out of public writing. What can be said is the shape: consolidation of many partial records into one identity, with a confidence position behind every decision rather than a silent merge.

THE APPLICATION

Screening, and a system built to be trusted

Resolved identities are screened against sanctions and denied-party lists, which is where resolution quality turns directly into compliance outcomes. It is why the engine is measured on resolution rate against the framework already in place, and why it carries a confidence position behind every match it makes.

It ships as a full-stack production application, held to the security standards a critical financial system requires, and monitored continuously rather than checked periodically.

THE RESULT

More resolved, for less, in production

Ten percent more identities resolved than the framework already in place, and thirty percent lower cost to run than that framework. The gain and the saving landed together, which is the unusual part.

The system is live, continuously monitored, and serving a range of clients.
